  2. I believe that the best way to learn a language is through music, arts, movies, theater...everything that makes us active in the process of learning. Learning should be applied in our daily lives somehow. As potential teachers of the future, we must be aware of the teaching methods as well of course and be able to offer the most compatible method for our students. An individual approach combined with the existentialist philosophy must do it ;)

  3. Dear Yağmur, I agree with you we need to listen carefully and read carefully and after some time we sure see the difference... as you mention that from theatres, movies, musics they are everywhere in daily life :) would be easy for learners to learn and improve i guess

  4. I agree with you Yağmur. You are right. I use the listening method. However, as I am not good at listening, I prefer to wacth movie movie with its subtitle option as English. I try to listen music in English, but I fall in the rhythm of the music, so I can't listen it :p.

  5. In my opinion, the most effective methods to learn a language is to list and speak as much as possible. I will give an example: before coming here, I had to do an intensive English course in my country for about 6 months. What teachers did were to put us in groups and try to talk to each other. Our English was not good at that moment. We had short talks. they also asked us to choose songs and listen to them, also they used to show short conversation. As the time was passing, we could realize that we had improved our skills on that areas( speaking and listening). And it was really good and funny because when we remember this, we laughed of our on mistakes when we did not speak English so good as today. And if we really want to learn a language, I think we should be around of native-speakers of that language. we will learn quickly. you know why? I will give you an example: here in Metu, there are lots of Turkish teachers who teach English. when a student does not know a word or face a difficulty in complete a sentence, or cannot express what they want to say, they start to speak in Turkish. and in my opinion this is not good. In English class, people are suppose to speak only in English whether the teacher is Turkish or not. If you want to learn , you should put an effort on you

    1. Carla I def agree with you. I am totally against speaking in Turkish in classes its not professional and bad for both teachers ad the students. There is a reason you wanna get an education in English. But also I realized with certain courses that certain teaching methodologies that are used to teach a new language allow small translations and a minimal use of the native tongue of speakers to give them a push at the beginning and with time the translations become less and less. I agree with you, but on the other hand, Its up to the instructor which teaching methods they wanna use and apply :)

    2. Yes Yagmur. Unfortunately, students can only suggest one or other things. It's up to the teacher to accept the suggestion or not. You are totally right.

  6. As nearly all Turkish sutendt, I've been studying English for 11 years up to now. However, I'm still not very good at it. There something wrong. Turkish edu. system based on grammar! But what necessary is practice and listening. For language learners, I think the best way is to live for at least 1 year in the native country.
